Well its coming to the end of term, I have done and learnt so much. I have been to London twice for fabric research and to the V&A to see an exhibition on fashion v sport to start researching for our finally project for the end of the year. I will post images and my write about the trips soon. I have learnt the basics for pattern cutting witch I enjoy doing so much and have a full folder of all the basic patterns, as well as making some of them up in calico for construction, like the jacket, skirt and shorts. I am working on our finally piece before the end of term witch is a short sleeved shirt so keep a look out for that.

start of uni work

For the past few weeks I have been working on a few desgin projects at uni. First we had a quick project to make a theme board for ether spice, classical, tutti fruttie/ rococco and surreal. i first chose spice but changed it as I did not understand the word rococco and thought it would be more interesting o find out more about it. I looked at the movie Maria Antoinette, I didn’t care much for the movie but the costumes were amazing and that’s where I chose my colours for the theme. i also looked at girls aloud can't speak French video as the new modern interpretation of rococco, which is where I thought that would be good if the theme board would end up with designs for a more modern look.

I also have done another short project called organic, where I had to produce a 3D structure, theme board and sketchbook. I started looking at natural and organic food then I looked at the artist Dale Chihuly and his glass sculptures. Which I found very inspirational and thought that they were one of the best pieces of art I have ever seen. I loved his ideas and processes of making the glass sculpture, as well as the colours he used. I liked the way he combined all those things to find the perfect place to create the best installations. I also looked at the garden magazine bloom, I feel they always have grate images to use as background’s and for the colours, I found this grate image of a leaf insect which I took my inspiration for my designs from. I started to design a basic shape of what I wanted the garment to look like. I then draped that and changed it as I went along making sure I changed my designs as new ideas came about.
