The end of year one

right so this is the end of year one and all we got left to do is our placements. the year has gone so fast and we only have one more left. i have diced to go on and do design and making next year which my marks support it. it will involve making a collection at the end of the year for a fashion show which will would put on also will need full commitment and 100% studio time. i enjoy being in the studio i love the structure and knowing what i would have to achieve and achieving it at the end of the day. i will have to work really hard on my research and presenting it a lot better then i have done. i know we have a collaboration with the group that do promotion next year on a jacket project which i am looking forward to and will start to look at fabrics ect when i am on my placement as i will be working up in London in Ede and Ravenscroft and Darren Beaman as a tailoring placement, so i think i will deign a tailored jacket. i will keep you posted on the placement, and as for uni we start back on the 5th oct.

LONDON FASHION WEEK 22nd -24th feb 2009 A/W

Well what can I say the most amazing exprices I have ever had the opportunities to do. I would defiantly want to do it agen and even help with the clothes show live.

Day one: traveling up on the Friday 20th I stayed at my uncle Darren’s who lives 45mins from the center of London so I need to get the tube in.

Day two: our first day up at 4:30 ready to be there at 6:00. Was nervous but mostly excited, it was my first ever London fashion week experience. We walked in to the sciences museum we got our wrist bands and got the lift up to the back stage area, where we were shown around the back stage and front of house area and the catwalk. After that we got stuck right in with bring up all the excitement, ect. We must have spend most of the time bring up things, like the 100 and 100 of bottles of water. Once all the things had been brought up i started to make the goody bags for the on/off presents. We made over 200 bags 100 normal goody bags and 100 VIP goody bags. They had goody like belts and Marc Jacobs daisy perfume. We finished our day at 4:00 once everything was set up and ready to start Sunday. With the first catwalks.

Day three: up agen at 4:30 for 2 segued shows to dress for. 9:45 Falguni & Shane peacocks and 3:30 krystof strozyna. There was a lot of waiting around between show and models getting the hair and make-up done but I did what I could to help by getting teat and coffee tidying making sure the models where happy. We were then allocated a model watched there fitting to see how everything went on and then waited around until they where ready to go. I was so nevus for my first dressing. Question like would i dress them quick enough? Will I damage any off the clothes? What if I put it on wrong? In the end the show went to with out a hitch. If was well organized on both parts on/off and the designers. I felt very please and like I had achieved something i never thought i would every achieve. I had to simple strapless dresses very simple no tights and shoes that fitted unlike a lot of the other models so they were ease and simple to put on. The collection was bight, heavily jeweled with very heavily influences of India where the two designers are from. After the show I tidy up help take the designers clothes to the car and wanted around till the next set of hair and stylist were in and models where being preped. The designer Krystof Strozyna show did not go so smoothly as the first one, I felt the pressure and the stress that the designer was on and his team. There were not enough shoes to go around the model and in fact cased a huge problem when the show went on. There was a lot of shoe swapping and confusion but the designers still smiled and carried on and thanked every one at the end of it and although it didn’t not go smoothly he still has pleased and I did not expect that I expect a lot more angry and upset. Over all the day was a grate experience and showed both good and not so gate side of back stage. I helped tidy and clean up for the next set of models and stylist in and went home at 5:00.

Day four: a lay in getting up at 5:30 the most exciting day. The day that everyone was waiting for PAM HOGG I got the chance to dress Pam Hogg's for her comeback show. She had famous models with lot of famous people watching. Some of the models include Dasiy Low, Jamie Winsten and some of the celebs in the ordnance were Peaches Geldof, Alfie Allen. Have such huge celeb list there ment there was camera crew and lots and lots of journalist. Staying away from them make sure the models were ok. Pams collection I thought went well with our sports V fashion project they where like jumpsuits/ skiwear type. For such a big named design she was not at all what i thought she would be. She was cram and grateful for the help that we had done. at the end of the show which went down very well and please a lot of people i offered to come back at 6:30 to help dress the on/off presents. This is a selection of the best up and coming designer, Cecilia Mary Robson, Q.E.D, Rachel Freire, Rozallo De Mura. There are two the ladies designers and two male designers. Cecilia Mary Robson and Rachel Freire are the ladies designers and the me designers are Q.E.D and Rozallo De Mura. All the designers show went so well and they where so pleased with everything and how it went. Finally leaving at 11:00pm that night

Day five: 6:30 this time and one last show to do. Ashley Isham the same as the lst two days a lot of waiting around getting drink putting out rubbish bags. There was to many dressers and not enough models they brought a bigger team then any one else. we did our last show, went home came back at 6:30 and help dirge till 10:30

i have enjoyed this experience so much it has made me really think what I would like to do for the my career. !!!

I have had serial trips to London since the being of uni. I have sourced fabric and visit the V&A to see the fashion V sport exhibition. I have also help out as a dresser for on/offs London fashion week on the 22nd-24th of Feb. 09 for A/W collections.

When I visited London to source fabric I visited places like the Cloth House, Soho Silks, Textile King. My group job was to source natural fabrics like wool, cotton, cashier. The places we visited did not come cheep. The fabrics were being priced at around £50 a meter in not higher. After we had sources a range of natural fabrics we meet my uncle Darren when he showed us round Savil row. We stop off at Edes & Ravenscroft. Edes & Ravenscroft where founded in 1689 and are know for there robe making for the royal, parliament, and court and hold three Royal warrants for robe makers. They also make the graduation robes as well as men's suits tailored for formal and business wear. We were able to see first hand a suite being cut out and what will happen next. We could see that in the end there end up on the shop floor where costumes will come in to the store and will have the suite then tailored to fit them.

when i vistied london the second time to see and exhibition for fashion V sport which was to give us a help in start with our newest project fashion V sport. the exhibtion was a good sart in to lookin at the project. it showed that there brife is can be very wide and you are not just limited to make it look so sport. i was really intrested in the short vidoe of a Trainer Confidentials called Nash Money. his clients give him thire plane new trainers and he takes them apart and grafityes them to make the stand out and be one of a kind trainer. There are also exibites from stella mccartney, jeremy scott and japanese label Visvum. (images found on google)

I have been to London twice for fabric research and to the V&A to see an exhibition on fashion v sport to start researching for our finally project for the end of the year. I will post images and my write about the trips soon. I have learnt the basics for pattern cutting witch I enjoy doing so much and have a full folder of all the basic patterns, as well as making some of them up in calico for construction, like the jacket, skirt and shorts. I am working on our finally piece before the end of term witch is a short sleeved shirt so keep a look out for that.

start of uni work

For the past few weeks I have been working on a few desgin projects at uni. First we had a quick project to make a theme board for ether spice, classical, tutti fruttie/ rococco and surreal. i first chose spice but changed it as I did not understand the word rococco and thought it would be more interesting o find out more about it. I looked at the movie Maria Antoinette, I didn’t care much for the movie but the costumes were amazing and that’s where I chose my colours for the theme. i also looked at girls aloud can't speak French video as the new modern interpretation of rococco, which is where I thought that would be good if the theme board would end up with designs for a more modern look.

theme board

I also have done another short project called organic, where I had to produce a 3D structure, theme board and sketchbook. I started looking at natural and organic food then I looked at the artist Dale Chihuly and his glass sculptures. Which I found very inspirational and thought that they were one of the best pieces of art I have ever seen. I loved his ideas and processes of making the glass sculpture, as well as the colours he used. I liked the way he combined all those things to find the perfect place to create the best installations. I also looked at the garden magazine bloom, I feel they always have grate images to use as background’s and for the colours, I found this grate image of a leaf insect which I took my inspiration for my designs from. I started to design a basic shape of what I wanted the garment to look like. I then draped that and changed it as I went along making sure I changed my designs as new ideas came about.
